One of the purest manifestations of serving your soul's purpose is through the sharing of an artistic gift.
This journey is one that very few people can walk without facing many trials in this life and therefore we want to shed light on this road less traveled so that others may learn from these experiences.
For nearly three decades, bass guitarist Marcus Miller has collaborated with some of the giants of pop and jazz. As a teenager, he made a name for himself as a young bass player in New York City, performing in jazz clubs and commercials and on Saturday Night Live. At 21, he was summoned to join the band of legendary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, and Miller later wrote and produced three of Davis' albums.
Miller's decades-long collaboration with R&B great Luther Vandross led to multiple hits and won Miller his first Grammy for R&B Song of the Year. In 2001, Miller won his second Grammy: Best Contemporary Jazz Album for M2.
Marcus is an UNESCO Artist for Peace, tours jazz clubs and stadiums around the world, hosts a show on Sirius XM, composes music for film and television, and releases new albums, collaborating with artists in all genres.
In our discussion, Marcus shares that the secret to his career longevity has always been the love and support of his parents, wife, and four children. He also describes the importance of having a "work/life balance" while living his soul's purpose of bringing joy and his unique perception of the world to his audiences.
