My father had this ritual of asking me this question after every major milestone and accomplishment in my life. He would say, “Congratulations! I am so proud of you. Are you happy with how your life is going thus far?”. Then he would give me a wink and launch into this boyish giggle that sounded like “oh just you wait…..”
As I grew older, this question began to present its true intention as my answer changed from “Sure am!” to “I’m getting there!” to “Not really, but I’m good”.
At that point in time, I was a successful attorney with my own business, had a beautiful daughter, owned a house, had two dogs in the yard, wonderful friends, and a very full life. I was good. Not happy, but good.
I was restless. I was anxious. I was scared that if this is all life has to offer, I don’t think this is going to be enough. How can I be happy with this when everything at my core is telling me there is more for me? I was good, but I wasn’t fulfilled. Nothing had a greater meaning or purpose for me in my career or my home life. I knew in my soul that my life had a deeper meaning and I was meant to serve a purpose…and this couldn’t be all there is.
So I began the journey to “come to myself”. Part of what I learned is that my soul's purpose is to be a conduit of spiritual insight along other people’s journey of accountability, personal growth, and self-empowerment. It is my mission in this life to guide others to come to themselves. I also learned that being accountable for who I am, what I have done, and why I've done it, was the only way I could move forward with understanding my true self.
